Are you a Red Pill Parent?

Welcome to The Red Pill Parents.  We are Red Pill Mama and Red Pill Papa, both parents with young children, who are in the process of waking up and looking very, very closely at everything “coming at” our kids.  If you haven’t figured it out already, the term “red pill” comes from The Matrix.  This nearly perfect explanation comes from Wikipedia: “Borrowing from the movie, the terms blue pill and red pill have become a popular metaphor for the choice between the blissful ignorance of illusion (blue) and embracing the sometimes painful, sometimes pleasant, truth of reality (red).”

As parents, Red Pill Papa and I have decided that we (big surprise) want the red pill.  We want to understand what is coming at our kids in terms of media, food, culture and other influences. We want to understand where it is coming from, why it is what it is, and most of all, we want the freedom to determine whether it’s what we want for our kids.  While the explanation of the red pill/blue pill metaphor above is pretty darn accurate for our purposes, we do realize that what our kids encounter every day is not illusion, but rather, these things are reality: our cultural reality.  But it is illusion in the sense that it is completely constructed, and is in no way a natural part or unshakeable absolute in our kids’ lives.  And we do not have to lie down and be held hostage by anyone else’s version of reality.

So join us as we ponder, pontificate, rant & rave, and ideally share some really good information with you along our path to enlightened truth.  The way things are is not the way things have to be.  Let’s open our eyes and ears and embrace the ‘sometimes painful, sometimes pleasant, truth of reality.’  Let’s take the red pill and create a better reality for our kids.
