I've been spending a lot of time in doctor's waiting rooms lately and the trend is bifurcated: half game show network, half food network. I just want to sit quietly with my own thoughts, fears, to-do lists, prayers, book, or even facebook. For awhile, all of Kaiser's (an HMO) medical centers had muzak accompanied floral or other nature scenes on the TVs (which I also found annoying but at least could be ignored fairly easily) but too many people complained so they switched to the food obsessed or money for nothing channels! Oh, and I can't say enough about mindfulness meditation. Saves my sanity on a regular basis. Yay for Thich Nhat Han.

Eckart Tolle's description of how he became aware of the "sound of the ego" once he realized he was the same as a schizophrenic person -- someone deemed "crazy" -- speaking similar thoughts in his head, only he had a filter for them.

That really connected with me. I had tried mediation at 23 and was in a pretty relaxed state already I didn't experience the benefits but 3 years later after a particularly stressful period, the practice has been essential to my happiness.

I really do not like when I see the DVD player in the SUV. I know people are on the road alot but that is time to talk and bond. Great post!
